The window

I have gotten more writing done in the last four days than I have in the last four weeks.

A lot of it is thanks to this pup and her bladder.

The schedule looks like this:

Every other morning me or my wife takes a turn getting up at 4:30 in the morning after putting Jorgie in her kennel around 9 or 9:30 the night before. She hasn’t had any accidents in her kennel overnight for a week straight. Maybe even more like two weeks? Time is a flat circle. Anyway, that feels good because before we were also getting up between 1:30 and 2:00 AM to give her a bathroom break as well. But she seems to be done with that, so good job Jorgie and good job us.

There is a window of time I can get some writing done after 4:30. That window seems to be between 4:30 and 6. An hour and a half of the kids still sleeping and Jorgie being content to just lay on the couch with us. Once we feed her all bets are off and she usually becomes a little bitey scoundrel and by then it’s time to walk her and get ready for work and in two weeks get the kids ready for school.

But getting some writing time in the morning, and making an effort not to look at my phone, has really rocketed the word count up. It feels good, it makes me think about the project more throughout the day, and that makes me write down little scraps of paragraphs throughout the day as well, boosting the word count even more. Momentum, baby!

I still have many thousands of words left in this project, but it feels good to be making a dent.
